We Are Not Two, We Are One.

The Kinks - Strangers

Translation…
Today marks exactly seven years since we first met, on a blistering cold winter’s day in Helsinki. The above picture was taken by my sister, a year and a half later, on a tiny island at the very outskirts of the archipelago my parents live in. Looking out at the very same sea that kept us apart in the beginning. The sea that seemed so vast and impossible to cross. As it turned out, when you really want something, nothing is impossible, and love is always worth it. It still is.

congrats!! :) i understand you’re from norway and he is from canada (sorry if i got that wrong)? i’m in a similar situation. it’s tough to manage sometimes with immigration difficulties! how did you work through the process, if you don’t mind my asking? did one of you get permanent residency? it can be quite the process! would love a post about this! xoxo

Hi Karin! You got it completely right, he’s Canadian and I’m Norwegian. I was lucky enough to be able to transfer through my company at first, and so the initial process was pretty straight-forward.

Then the next step was applying to become a landed immigrant / permanent resident, with M sponsoring me as my spouse. Since Canada considers you to be common-law married (same rights as being married) automatically after two years of living together as a couple, we didn’t need to actually get married.

The application process is fairly simple, however, because we were applying from within the country, it was VERY lengthy. There are two parts to it, and all in all, the process took almost three years. This was frustrating and nerve wracking, as my last work visa (I had two of them) expired only one month after I got my application approved ;)

However, now I’m a permanent resident, and all is well!

How about you? Are you the one moving? From where? If you need any help or advice, let me know :)
